Program Notes
Dance of the Marionette was inspired by the image of a marionette whose movements are initially dictated by the strings of its puppeteer. In the opening section, the dance is occasionally awkward and uneven, reflecting the imperfect grace of the hand that controls it. As the work unfolds, the marionette breaks free from its strings and discovers movement of its own. No longer bound by an external force, it comes to life with purpose and elegance, dancing with a newfound fluidity and individuality.
